The Process
We were assigned to re-design something created to remove something. I chose an iron, which removes wrinkles. After rounds of user and market research, I decided to focus on improving the safety and stability factors of ironing.
How might we make irons more lightweight, stable, and safe for the aging population?
Ideation
I wanted to design something lightweight, with a sleek form so I took to my sketching
pad and started doodling.

After some initial form development, I focused more on the stability aspect of this iron.

Concept Direction

A simple stand and an iron with a disconnected handle to lower the weight.
A stand with the ability to refill the iron with water while it's in the stand.

A lightweight iron with a charging stand and magnetic connection to the stand to keep it stable.
The Final
A cordless lightweight iron with a charging stand and a magnetic connection to keep the iron secure while the user adjusts garments.

Sketches done on Adobe Photoshop using a Wacom tablet.
The Prototype
Hand made from HDU foam, spray paint, and silver sticker sheet.
